Radiation Safety Manager

The Radiation Licensing Manager will act as a specialist resource for Sirtex Commercial employees, generally including the Sales and Marketing departments, as well as Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs and external customers in regards to radiation and radioactive materials licensing.
Responsibilities/Authorities
- Conduct Radiation Protection training for external customers, as requested
- Maintain and update Sirtex procedures for field force and recommended procedures for external customers based on best radiation safety practices and field experience
- Support customers in acquiring licenses which may include but is not limited to writing applications and liaising with respective authorities, including the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Agreement States
- Provide detailed, expert knowledge of evolving and existing requirements and regulations and provide direction on anticipated, future requirements in regards to:
- Radioactive material
- Radiation protection
- Reduction of exposure to personnel
- Technology (e.g. radiation detection and measurement tools)
- Radioactive material transportation
- Dosimetry
- Radioactive waste
- Support Regulatory department in regards to design and development activities and device testing.
- Support other Sirtex departments, such as Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), and Sales & Medical in radiation safety related and technical matters, including support for Training, Education, and Certification (TEC) and Medical Information (MedInfo) programs
- Serve as the liaison with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
Education Prerequisites and Skill Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in nuclear physics, engineering, or related field
- Minimum 10 years experience in radiation safety; board certification(s) (e.g. CHP, DABR) preferred
- Radiation safety officer certification preferred
- Work experience in clinical radiation therapy setting with medical devices/pharmaceuticals
- Effective project management and administrative skills
- Highly organised, exhibiting meticulous attention to detail, excellent record keeping
- Excellent verbal, written, and analytical skills and ability to interact effectively with Sirtex staff and regulators
Training Requirements
- Undergo all formal training, as may be directed from time-to-time
- Observe and comply with all Sirtex corporate policies
- Work within, and ensure adherence to quality system procedures, work instructions and other quality system
