Suzanne Martin’s story is one of family, love and perseverance. She is a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and – most recently – a bride. In December 2011, she became a cancer warrior when she was admitted to the hospital for severe abdominal pain and left with a diagnosis of stage IV colorectal cancer.
In 2012, Suzanne endured what seemed to be endless rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. The harsh treatments led to severe dehydration and extended hospitalizations. Throughout her constant battles with cancer, her one wish was to be able to dance at her son’s wedding. Two weeks before the wedding, she was cleared for travel and was able to dance at his wedding. It was the first of her many miracles.
Suzanne’s cancer metastasized to her liver in 2013, and she underwent a liver resection. In 2014, the cancer returned to her liver, and she began chemotherapy. During that time, she was introduced to Selective Internal Radiation Therapy using SIR-Spheres® Y-90 resin microspheres. She underwent SIRT therapy in the summer of 2014 and says it was the simplest and most effective procedure she had been through. She resumed chemotherapy treatments in December 2015 and was told after a CT scan that she showed no evidence of disease. She believes the SIR-Spheres Y-90 resin microspheres treatment saved her life. Almost all treatments and drugs can produce unwanted side effects. Some side effects following a SIRT procedure can be minor, making patients feel uncomfortable, but a small number can be serious. Every patient is different in how he or she reacts to a treatment. Many patients experience abdominal pain or tightness in their abdomen, nausea and loss of appetite which normally subsides within a week.
Suzanne’s most recent miracle came in the form of a letter. The letter reconnected her with an old friend, a man she used to ride the bus to and from work with every day 30 years ago. The two friends fell in love, and in February 2017, Suzanne danced at her own wedding, celebrating the beginning of her new chapter with the man she calls her angel. Today, she shares her story with other cancer warriors, in hopes to motivate them to live their lives to the fullest.

Important Safety Information
Almost all treatments and drugs produce unwanted side effects. Most side effects following a Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT) procedure are minor, but a small number can be serious. Every patient is different in how he or she reacts to a treatment. Many patients experience abdominal pain or tightness in their abdomen, nausea and loss of appetite which normally subsides within a week. Patients also develop a mild fever that may last for up to a week, and fatigue which may last for several weeks.
In rare instances, a small number of microspheres may inadvertently reach other organs in the body, such as the gallbladder, stomach, intestine, lung, or pancreas. If SIR-Spheres® Y-90 resin microspheres reach these organs, they may cause inflammation and potentially ulceration. These complications are rare, but if they do occur they may require additional medical treatment.
Please contact your health care professional about your condition and additional information concerning SIR-Spheres® Y-90 resin microspheres.
