Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of primary liver cancer.
It is more likely to develop in men than women and is more common in older people.

Symptoms of primary liver cancer
The liver is very good at repairing itself and can even function normally with just a small part of it in working order. This means that liver cancer symptoms often do not appear until the cancer is at an advanced stage and may then only include:
- Pain, especially at the top right of the abdominal area
- Unexplained weight loss
- Weakness or tiredness
- A hard lump under the ribs on the right side of the body
